We’re proud to offer Shotokan karate training that emphasizes not only self-defense skills, but also discipline, focus, and respect for oneself and others. Our experienced instructors are committed to helping each student achieve their goals, whether that means mastering a new technique, building strength and flexibility, or simply finding a supportive and empowering space to train. We’re located in the heart of Andersonville, and we invite you to join us and discover the power of karate for yourself.

Sensei Pedro Gonzalez

Sensei Pedro Gonzalez is a 3rd degree dan black belt and a certified black belt instructor with over 25 years of professional teaching experience.

He began his karate journey at the age of 8 in Venezuela, studying under Sensei Tatsuo Shimabuku, and has since earned multiple black belt certifications in Shotokan karate. As a member and later an instructor of the Venezuelan national karate Olympic team, Sensei Pedro competed and trained at the highest levels of the sport.

He emigrated to the United States under political asylum, and began teaching karate with one of the top schools in Chicago. After seeing an opportunity to open his own gym focused on his experience teaching students in his home country, Sensei Pedro opened Senshi Karate School of Chicago in 2020.

At Senshi Karate, Sensei Pedro empowers his students to live the karate life, teaching them discipline, courage, focus, and fun in a supportive, community-oriented, and non-judgmental environment. Through his teaching, Sensei Pedro has inspired his students to compete, win, and most importantly, have fun.
